You can see from the numbers that the ATI card performs better with Vegas Pro and the Radeon was running on a slower CPU than the Quadro was! Proof positive that the right GPU can make a difference. The Radeon HD 5870 and Quadro 4000 are similarly spec’ed cards. I have an older Radeon HD 7950 which is a little better than the R9 270 but not as good as the R9 290 but it works great with Vegas Pro. As others have suggested the Radeon R9 290X is great. I swapped my NVIDIA Quadro 4000 for an ATI Radeon HD 5870 and got better performance. AMD cards tend to work better with Vegas Pro than NVIDIA cards. This is backed up by countless Vegas Pro users swapping their NVIDIA cards for AMD/ATI cards and getting better GPU performance so it’s not all theory. Therefore, AMD cards are better to use with Vegas Pro than NVIDIA cards. In benchmarks AMD OpenCL beats NVIDIA OpenCL (not surprising). NVIDIA also supports OpenCL but they don’t put a whole lot of effort into it because they want people to use CUDA. AMD only supports OpenCL (and OpenGL) so they make sure that their OpenCL implementation performs exceptionally well. Vegas Pro 16 GPU Rendering So I’m rendering a video in Vegas Pro 16 and I have taken all the steps to enabling GPU accelerated rendering, enabling legacy gpu rendering and selecting my gpu in the video tab, but my GPU is barely being used, it’s below 20 usage and the fans barely even spin. NVIDIA is pushing their proprietary CUDA technology. Every render must first playback the timeline so this affects both editing and rendering performance. Vegas Pro uses OpenCL for performing timeline GPU acceleration. There isn’t anything that it’s not going to do. “In other words, how is a Nvidia card not going to work? What is it going to do or not do?”
